Gonna try

I am on my last day of antibiotics (yay) and my rib is feeling better...enough that I can move around normally. I have been the best patient ever for the past couple of weeks, because I really want to go snowboarding. I've taken my medicine when needed, have avoided the gym, used heat therapy, etc. Tomorrow morning, I am waking up at the crack of dawn to fly down the mountains on my snowboard and hope to do the same on through to Sunday. Smart? Hm. As long as I don't fall on my rib, I should be fine...right?

No. I'm not stubborn. I'm not! I'm not!

Stick to salad

I tried to make myself a sandwich for lunch today. My bread caught on fire in the toaster and I had to beat out the flames with a knife. So I opted to eat a salad instead. It's safer.

Preloaded iPods for Sale?

Some people are now selling brand new iPods preloaded with thousands of songs, podscasts, videos and movies. They realized that everyone wants an iPod but not everyone knows what to do with an iPod. Pay a couple extra hundred dollars and you're good to go. Although this crosses into the grey area of what is legal and what is not, it's an interesting idea. Living in the world I do, I sometimes forget that not everyone in the world is as techy and this would be a pretty hot idea for someone like my grandpa.

owie

I would never wish an injured rib on anybody. Every breath, cough, movement and turn is excruciating. Although exhausted, I dread going to sleep every night. It is good to sleep on the injured side so that the healthy lung can fully inflate on the other side. But you can imagine how painful it is to lie on top of the injured rib. So I can either have trouble breathing or I can grit my teeth and deal with the pain. My pain medication was increased this morning since the other stuff wasn't good enough.

What is more painful? The idea that I might not be able to go snowboarding on the trips I have planned over the next few weeks.

Keep praying. It needs to heal soon!

Fractured Rib

Did you know that you could fracture your rib from coughing?
Well, you can. And it's not fun.

Revelation on Flu Shot

I just had a revelation on this horrendous flu that has attacked my body. I don't usually get sick this bad or this frequent (I just got over being sick). Last year, aside from a day or two of the sniffles, I didn't get sick. I also didn't get the flu shot last year due to shortages. This year, however, I did. And since then, I have been hit twice with the flu. The first time, my cough lingered for a month. This time, it has completely knocked me out.

From here forward, I am no longer going to get the flu shot. Prevent me from getting sick? I think I invited it into my body with open arms.

Wanna see where I work?

GoogleABC World News Tonight reported live from the Googleplex on Friday. Bob Woodruff also did a little tour of Google. You can see a few of my buddies walking around and the stairway that I've nearly killed myself on three times.

Too bad I was deadly sick that day. Maybe Bobby and I could have buddied up.

VH1: Best Week Ever

The good part of being sick and an insomniac: VH1.com: Best Week Ever. Hilarious.

The bad part: Not being able to breathe already and gasping for air as I laugh.

ugh

I can't hear you. What? My head is too stuffed up to hear anything right now and I feel like I am underwater. I thought I was getting better but having the fever, flu, mixed with insomnia is a terrible combination. I haven't been this sick since I had pneumonia a few years ago. Silence hurts, sound hurts, light hurts, darkness hurts.

Why is it you don't appreciate how good "normal" feels until you are sick? I would give anything right now to feel normal again.

What's going on here?!

I woke up this morning feeling like a train ran over me and my throat hurts. I still woke up at the crack of dawn anyways and jumped on a train to get into the city. Didn't I just get over being sick? How is it physically possible that I can be sick again? I just finally got over the cough I had for a month, last week!

New Toy

I got a new toy for Christmas, the Canon PowerShot SD550. It is full of all kinds of awesomeness I haven't been using it nearly enough, but plan to start using it now that I have 2gb of space all ready for me to use up. I should probably also read into what all these little buttons and settings do...that would help.

I love TiVo

People have been ranting and raving about TiVo for years and it is one of the few gadgets that I have held out on getting as soon as it is released. I didn't want my life to be ruled by what was on T.V. The temptation to get one grew stronger and stronger over the years and I started hearing little whining noises from a certain individual. As a special wedding present, Nicole finally fulfilled our need and got us one. Perfect timing since we were out of the country for a month and a new season of shows was starting. After having TiVo for a few months, I am completely enamored. I was sooo wrong to think that having a TiVo would mean that my life was ruled by T.V. Instead, TiVo has freed me from that. Now I never had to think about taping something or what is on that night. I go and live my life, and when I am ready and free, I can sit down and watch all my favorite shows. I am also a big fan of rewinding touching moments and watching them over and over again and fast forwarding through the commercials. Awesome.

I love TiiiVooooo

Taking it all in

I had been falling behind in my movie watching and felt the need to catch up and just...consume. In the past two weeks I have seen the following movies:

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • King Kong
  • Memoirs of a Geisha
  • Fun with Dick and Jane
  • Brokeback Mountain
And about ten other movies on DVD. A couple more in my queue of things to watch and I'll finally feel "caught up". Then it is on to catch up on my reading. I've already started and am almost finished with the two I have been working at.

10 Traits

Reading stuff like this is always fun: 10 Traits That Make You A Great Girlfriend and let's not forget Traits of a Great Boyfriend.

The points are surprisingly dead-on, although I guess I can really only vouch for the latter.

*cheese*

I can't stop smiling.

I was sitting up in our bedroom playing on my computer when the floor below me started vibrating from some very loud music downstairs. I ran down to the garage to see Bertrand playing around with the car's sound system. The CD he had popped in sounded like a CD with my type of music so I asked him if he got it from my car. He said, "no...I made it." We kept flipping through the different songs and all of the songs sounded more and more familiar to me as if it were a mix I would have made. Again I asked, "are you sure this isn't mine? it isn't really you to have this type of music on a CD you would make." He smiled and said, "no...this is Bertrand's Mix...remember?" And then...it hit me.

Several years ago, my good friend Bertrand picked me up to go out for my birthday lunch. On the car ride down I remembering making a mental note of how funny it was that he listened to the same variety of music as I did. I found it a little odd but very neat. Nearly every song that would come up on this CD of his either brought a little squeel of delight from me or a smile.

Fast forward to a couple of years later when I played some of my own music in the car. Bertrand didn't seem to be enjoying it much and I asked him how that was possible since he had the very same song playing in his car the time he had picked me up for lunch. And then he smiled and I realized, he made that whole "Bertrand's Mix" for me and to impress me. How cute.

I guess it worked.

Sudoku Fiend

I am a fanatic of puzzles, brain teasers, and crosswords. I have recently discovered Sudoku and am hooked. Sudoku is a logic based number placement puzzle and my brain enjoys the exercise. I am also a fiend for gadgets, so as one of Bertrand's Christmas gifts, I got him...yes, electronic Sudoku. It rocks!

Now every night before bed, I sit and play a few games before I can get to sleep. I only wish it had a light-up screen option. I know it's his gift, but I probably use it more than he does. Hey...we're married...we share.

Football watching fan

Longhorns win!
I have more fun watching people watch football than watching football itself.

Weird thought

I've been with my blog longer than I've been with my husband.

Exhausted and sore....and happy

There is no better way to kick off the new year than to spend the day flying down the mountains in the snow.

We went up to Tahoe for the day for our first snowboarding trip of the season. The weather around here has been a bit chaotic with torrential downpours, flooding, thunderstorms, and the like...this only made me happy knowing that the snow would be awesome in Tahoe. I don't think I fully realized what I was in for though. About a foot and a half of snow fell between the time we arrived at the resort until the time we had to dig our car out of it. It was awesome! Yay for powder and yay for snow!

Unfortunately, with this snow the roads were also a mess and we spent a looong time in the car to get home. I'm exhausted...already sore...and am dreading having to wake up early tomorrow and go back to work after being on vacation for a little over a week and a half.

I think I am going to need coffee tomorrow morning.
